(OK, I know the headline is REALLY bad. It’s late!)

With the closing announced of Pets Alive Westchester, we have some very special animals we’d like to see in homes, and we’ll be telling you about some of them here in the weeks to come. When the facility closes we’ll be moving the remaining animals to our sister facility in Middletown, NY, so no one’s in danger of dying – but wouldn’t a home be great?

Kane is one of the Pets Alive Westchester legacy dogs, dogs who were on the property when Pets Alive took over the Elmsford Animal Shelter in Elmsford, NY in 2010. At the time there were 600 dogs in a building designed to hold about a third of that. There are now less than 30 remaining. Kane is one of those dogs.

Kane is a medium size lab mix, around nine years old now but you’d never know it – his coat is healthy and sleek and he is very playful, energetic and strong. Kane is also extremely affectionate and he loves to give kisses and snuggle. He is a VERY happy dog who mainly wants to love and be loved – and for some reason, he’s been in the shelter since August of 2008. Why? I haven’t the slightest!

Kane loves his toys and he enjoys car rides, too! He has lived for many years with another dog and enjoys the company, although he prefers to eat alone. He does like to chase small dogs and cats, so a home without would probably be best for him.

If you’re looking for an energetic lovebug or a companion for your active dog, Kane is the man. He’s been overlooked for too long – but I know that if you meet him, if you give him a chance, you’ll fall in love. He’s eligible for Foster to Adopt, so you can take him home for a weekend, a week, a month or forever. He shouldn’t be living at the shelter another day! Are you his citizen?
