An update on June 27, 2017

SoldierSoldier, a very senior dog, came through our doors on Memorial Day, blind, deaf and emaciated. He could barely walk. We loved him unconditionally from the moment we set our eyes on him, as he labored down our driveway. Soldier’s health continued to  deteriorate and he was in a lot of pain. After consulting with our veterinarian, through tears and with broken hearts, we helped Soldier cross the Rainbow Bridge last week.  Run free of pain our sweet Soldier; we didn’t know you long but you were loved and will never be forgotten by your Pets Alive family. Rest In Peace Soldier, until we meet again.

Over the past 5 weeks, you have followed our stories and may have donated to our Saving Pets Challenge. Thank you for your everlasting support!  Today (June 1) at 1:59pm ET, the Challenge concluded – and you helped us exceed our $50,000 fundraising goal! Together, we raised $59, 768 thanks to your generosity – and thanks to the generosity of Sidewalk Angels Foundation, who exceeded their initial $25,000 pledge and donated just shy of $30,000 in matching gifts! This is an amazing accomplishment and we can’t begin to thank you for your help in donating, in sharing the Challenge and supporting us over the past 5 weeks.

Together, this money will help so many animals, like Soldier, one of our most recent rescues.

Solider 1Soldier came to Pets Alive deaf, nearly blind and clearly starved, both in body and spirit. On Memorial Day, a day when many other families were enjoying a day off, our dog staff was on hand and ready to feed, comfort and pamper this old gentleman. It’s been a long time since Soldier was someone’s cherished pet, but that didn’t stop him from soaking in the love he instantly felt, being spoiled and finally safe.

Solider 2Our team was on hand to provide for his every need, from assessing his medical condition – he has advanced stage cataracts – and giving him kisses, to providing for him a much needed holiday feast. Soldier is now undergoing various tests – from blood work, urine analysis and SNAP 4DX testing – to determine if he has any conditions which require treatment.

Your donations from the Saving Pets Challenge will help Soldier heal – in addition to so many other animals. We are forever grateful for your support and helping so many homeless animals. Together we give them hope and a second chance at life.
