Running Pets Alive can be challenging. Draining. Disheartening. Even if you’re lucky enough to have someone like Kerry Clair doing all the real work. Sometimes it just seems like one big Rube Goldberg device (Sigh…those of you who don’t know what a Rube Goldberg device is — it’s a complicated machine with lots of moving parts designed to perform a simple task. Like this one from YouTube.)
Some days you get here and it seems like you’re getting your butt kicked from the second you walk in until the second you leave. There are so many animals and not enough space. Sometimes we have to choose which ones we can take, knowing the rest will probably die. Then there’s the money. We watch every penny and always seem to get blindsided by one more expense, like a $3500 electric bill. Ouch. Then there are people who mean well who insist on second guessing every decision or policy, not realizing that we have to take into consideration every animal, employee, volunteer and donor, not just their favorites. And you wouldn’t believe the minute details that we have to deal with every day. I’m a big picture guy, and some of this stuff just makes my eyes glaze over.

Sanctuary animal updates:
Since our last update on February 5th, we have found homes for Scarlet, Barclay, Lexi, Dusty, Tina, Sherry, Dawn, Poncho, Buttercup, Valentino, Barney (but he came back), and Roxi. Three of our other dogs - Poppi, Royce and Tugger were also adopted from ARF this week! Good luck guys! Behave in your new homes! Sadly this is the first update since mid December where we had no cats adopted. Where are you cat people? Your cats are waiting here for you. Come and get them!

Hello everyone. It’s me, Matt DeAngelis. A thousand people out there just collectively scratched their heads. “Who?” It’s a long story, but I’m the co-director of our little Shangri-La. I spend a lot of time on the behind-the-scenes stuff. My partner, Kerry Clair, makes my job easy. She’s perfect for this job and is really terrific at it.
So the new Pets Alive is one month old.

New Pets Alive Website is LIVE
Our new website is live! We’re really excited about this and would like to thank Laura Cromwell and her husband Pete for all their work on this with us. They have been AMAZING in getting the new design developed, up and running. Thank you! Please be sure to check it out. We also have our new blog thre and a Badgee Update (who is now ready for adoption)!
Sanctuary animal updates:
Since our last newsletter/update we have found homes for Rex, Jake, Sandy, Belle, Bridget, Tara, Gabrielle, Opal (although she came back), Leo, Tulip, Peaches, Barney (all dogs), Mimi (cat) and Ringtail (cat). We also took in 26 more dogs from the South - all set to be euthanized at some point. We took them in from Georgia, Kentucky, and Tennessee. We also took in a few dogs from private homes where they could no longer care for them. ARF (Animal Rescue Foundation from the Hamptons) came and took six of the smaller dogs that we rescued to their shelter. They will adopt them out from there. They also have high adoption standards.
