But, you have to be open; you have to be ready. And-it's a hard road. Your future was calling, and it was the voice of all those you could save--but, you know, Matt, you could so easily not have listened. You could have, instead, tuned into a different song. All of you could have just not listened, and let Pets Alive quietly--evaporate, disappear. But, you didn't. And so, many precious lives have been saved: hopelessness and fear turned to trust and--being loved and cared for, in a home--their dream come true. I'm glad you listened to your song, Matt, and if gratitude was a sound, coming from all you've saved and all who know the extraordinary things you've done--it would be a roar. Getting to know you and Bill has been one of the great joys of riding the roller coaster that is Pets Alive. I used to walk around Pets Alive at night sometimes, down by Sammy's run and into the darkness by the far horse paddock where Noble now lives and feel in my heart that Pets Alive was where I belonged and where I would end up. This was 6 or so years before Sara died and all this happened. I knew it then. I know it now. Pets Alive is one of the most precious golden rings of a life that has been both charmed and blessed with more of them than I can count. Linda,

We are given gifts to do this. Some people fill it and know joy; some people end up an unhappy island in the space they should be filling. Some people overflow their space. Do good with the gifts you are given. If you're on the wrong road, you know it and should change it. If you're on the right road, you've grasped the gold ring, and each day brings golden moments. Saying goodbye to a loved one is a golden moment. Greeting a new loved one--that's a golden moment as well. The balance brings renewed strength, and focus. Matt has expanded his boundaries by expanding his heart and soul, and truly, it's a gift to know him. Here’s the meaning of life: to fill your space. We are given gifts to do this.
