I am sincerely happy for the outcome BUT....why be reactive instead of proactive? Why should any innocent being be left to suffer for any length of time? Any animal, regardless whether a shelter, a sanctuary, or any other entity that accepts animals under it's care should be medically examined from the time of intake. Now, I am aware that some shelters and other places operate under suboptimal circumstances, but at the very least a health check should be mandatory. I can dream.......

Barrie,
Um, but that's the point. Exactly. Whatever their protocols were BEFORE, they have now CHANGED. So this won't happen again and they WILl treat medically animals that come into their care in any capacity like this. That's exactly what we're saying here. So yes, what happened was an absolute travesty but the point is hat they looked at it, realized that was unacceptable and will be absolutely correcting and fixing it going forward. That's the entire point of the blog and about what happened. That the protocol will now NOT be dropping them to the ACC if they need medical attention. Did you read the blog??

Well, I hate to ruin this lovefest for the ASPCA, but I don't believe that they don't know that NYCACC does NOT provide medical care for animals in pain beyond perhaps a pain med here and there. This is not the first cat to languish there suffering in extreme pain from wounds and injuries that went untreated. NYCACC is a kill facility, not an animal hospital. They don't even have a medical director. The first thing the ASPCA should have done was treat the broken leg because that is an emergency. Animals are kept at NYCACC in constant pain until either a rescue group pulls them or they are killed. The ASPCA should not have dumped her at a facility known for its indifference to the needs of the animals incarcerated there. After she was treated by the ASPCA, THEN she could have been moved there for her alleged owners to find, if that indeed is the ASPCA protocol for these unfortunate souls, very few of which make it out alive, as they well know.

Lisa, I would suggest that you open that dialogue with them. Call and ask. Ask what changes can be made so that animals like Precious and Benny can also be protected and ALL the animals we care about can be kept out of the pit known as the Animal Care and Control in NYC. That place is desperate for reform. Something must be done there. I think nothing will change until we get a new mayor and when we do that we need to arrange a meeting and sit down with him or her and discuss the animal situation in NYC.

That is where I would start because it seems the ACC won't change on their own.

This is a great event. I have always supported the ASPCA but when they got all the bad press about how they spend their donations I was hurt. They always had my trust and appreciation then questions made suspicions. The fact that poor Gloria suffered so long is ridiculous, unacceptable. The ACC obviously hates their jobs and are paying people to do ....nothing?? Another government run ripoff agency...and boy are they everywhere!!!!Pets Alive...to say the least you were in the right place at the right time. Think Gloria would agree, I do. Also great...because you took the time to praise. That's encouraging, and uplifting in a World where criticism seems to always sound the loudest...Go Gloria! Go ASPCA! Go Pets Alive! ACC you suck..

I am so happy that Gloria has finally gotten the care she needed and had been denied for so long. I'm also happy that that ASPCA stepped up and took responsibility for the situation and will be changing their protocols for situations like this. I am once again DISGUSTED with the ACC and until they fire that Witch running it, I do not believe nothing will ever change. And how can you not place the blame on the ACC? They were ultimately responsible for Gloria's care and instead of fixing her and making her adoptable, they put her on the kill list because it was more profitable to them than helping that poor, beautiful creature. I am absolutely positive that the Devil is in charge of the ACC and God is leaving it up to all of us who care about the welfare of the animals in that horrible place to take the Devil down! This story right here might just be the turning point in bringing the ACC down. ... God bless you Pets Alive and God Bless Gloria for being so strong and holding out long enough for y'all to rescue her. And God bless the ASPCA for stepping up and taking the responsibility that the ACC should have.
