Volunteer at Pets Alive

Volunteer Hours (once you have attended an orientation) Monday - Saturday from 10-4pm and Sunday 11-4pm. Thank you.

Some of the following are suggested volunteer jobs! Trail maintenance, fences painted, fencing put up, walls painted, kennel painted, horse paddocks cleaned, flower planting, vehicle maintenance, laundry done, errands, vet drop off/pick-ups, fund raising events, event planning, clean out/organize the garages (inventory). We also have special group volunteer projects.

Volunteers Wanted!
Volunteers are invited to apply to work in the various animal care areas. Volunteers who are skilled electricians, plumbers, carpenters and experienced groomers are also needed. In addition, there is a need for volunteers willing to do manual labor in a variety of construction and maintenance projects. Volunteers are also needed to join the following teams and help us grow these programs throughout our community, Offsite Team, Pet Chow Pantry and Senior for Seniors prorgrams.

Volunteer Orientation
Anyone wishing to volunteer must first attend an appropriate volunteer orientation class depending on which animals they would like to work with.
Dog and Cat orientation is the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month:

  • Dog Orientation at 12:00 p.m.
  • Cat Orientation at 2:00 p.m.
Barn Orientation is the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month:
  • Barn Buddies at 11:30 a.m.
You are welcome to attend one or all of the orientations!

Orientation lasts approximately 1 hour and is required. It provides the policies and procedures of the sanctuary along with the safety rules for the protection of both you and the animals. We do require ALL dog volunteers to be at least 16 years old, and anyone under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent at all times. Please email for more information or if you are unable to make one of our Saturday orientations. Cat Caregiver
Cat Caregivers provide general care and socialization for sanctuary cats. Responsibilities include cleaning, feeding, grooming and interacting with the cats.

Dog Caregiver
Dog Caregivers provide general care and socialization for sanctuary dogs. Responsibilities include cleaning, feeding, walking, grooming and interacting with the dogs.

Dog Handler
Dog Handlers work with the staff to provide additional training and socialization for dogs requiring more attention. Dog Handlers are required to have a minimum of one year of hands-on dog training experience, documented with the Sanctuary Volunteer Manager. Dog Handlers work on site only.

Horse Caregiver
Horse Caregivers provide general care, grooming and socialization for sanctuary horses. Experience with horses required. Responsibilities include cleaning, feeding, grooming and interacting with the animals. For information about the "Barn Buddy" orientation specifically for our farm animals, contact

Handypersons utilize their skills in maintenance, construction, plumbing, landscaping, etc. to care for the sanctuary buildings and provide a safe and aesthetically-pleasing environment for the animals, staff, and visitors.

Professional Volunteers
Pets Alive Sanctuary welcomes and appreciates the volunteer services of professionals such as veterinarians, veterinary technicians, groomers, event planners, etc.
